MIRA Festival 2024: A Triumph of Immersive Music and Digital Arts

The 13th edition of MIRA Festival, held on November 8-9 at Fira Montjuïc in Barcelona, marked its most successful year to date. Attracting 10,000 attendees over two days, the festival sold out both day tickets and passes for the first time, solidifying its position as a leading event in the electronic music and digital arts scene.

The festival showcased an impressive lineup across its two main stages, Voll-Damm and DICE, featuring both established and emerging artists. Bicep unveiled their new artistic concept, CHROMA, delivering a spectacular audiovisual show in collaboration with visual artist Zak Norman. Kim Gordon, the iconic co-founder of Sonic Youth, brought The Collective to Spain for the first time, presenting her most electronic work to date. A.G. Cook energized the crowd with a series of high-tempo hits, highlighting his status as a pioneer of hyperpop.

Other standout performances included British Murder Boys, whose powerful live set was enhanced by visuals from Massó, and Robin Fox, who mesmerized the audience with a meticulously choreographed laser and sound show. The festival concluded with a high-octane DJ set by Toccororo, one of the leading figures in Spain’s club scene.

Beyond music, MIRA Festival featured 10 interactive digital art installations that transformed the Fira Montjuïc space. Highlights included Photons by Eyesberg, a luminous LED screen sculpture in constant dialogue, and ECHO by VPM in collaboration with Cultura Inquieta, an installation exploring real-time light and sound resonance. The entrance itself became an attraction—a stunning laser installation that immersed visitors from the moment they arrived.

This year also introduced MIRA WEEK, a city-wide extension of the festival from November 4-10. The program included sold-out events like .MOV Exploring Visual Languages at Ideal Barcelona and the European premiere of Bicep’s short film CHROMAVISION, directed by Zak Norman, followed by a Q&A session at Sala Phenomena.

Looking ahead, MIRA Festival has already announced Oneohtrix Point Never as the first confirmed artist for its 2025 edition, where he will present his acclaimed album Again. Early bird tickets are now available, signaling another promising year for the festival.
