#961 Deeper Shades of House Lars Behrenroth
William Orbit has died at the age of sixty-nine. His family confirmed that the influential producer passed away at his home on July 23, 2026.
Orbit built a legendary career spanning electronic music, ambient, and pop production. He achieved global renown for shaping Madonna’s landmark 1998 album ‘Ray of Light,’ crafting the sophisticated sound of singles including ‘Frozen’ and the title track.
Beyond his work with Madonna, Orbit produced Blur’s critically acclaimed ’13,’ defined All Saints hits like ‘Pure Shores,’ and collaborated with artists including Britney Spears, U2, and Pink. His pioneering blend of ambient electronics and pop melody heavily influenced contemporary electronic and pop production.
Earlier this year, Orbit shared that he had compiled a completed album intended as a follow-up project with Madonna, though it ultimately went unreleased.
