Alice Iguchi Talks Patagonica DJ Tour & Protecting Patagonia

As the world gears up for 2025—designated by UNESCO as the International Year of the Glacier—Parties4Peace is making waves once again with the Patagonica DJ Tour in Chile. Spanning from Valparaíso and Concepción all the way down to the icy landscapes of Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, the initiative merges music, environmental advocacy, and community outreach to spotlight pressing global issues like climate change and biodiversity loss. Leading the charge are dedicated artists and activists, including Montreal’s very own DJ Claire, whose passion for sonic exploration goes hand in hand with her commitment to protecting our planet.

During the Patagonica DJ Tour, Parties4Peace collaborates with local organizations across Chile—such as CODEFF, the country’s oldest environmental non-profit—to advocate for Patagonia as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This marks 16 years of ongoing efforts stemming from Peace Boat, a platform that amplifies environmental and cultural initiatives worldwide. The tour further supports youth representatives working on sustainability in the region by inviting them to join Peace Boat’s “Youth for the SDGs” program for the United Nations Ocean Decade, forging a unique fusion of music-driven gatherings and ecological stewardship.

As part of this year’s focus on the oceans, the tour will call at the port of Valparaíso to rally support for the BBNJ Treaty—essential for protecting marine biodiversity on the high seas. It will also continue to push the 30×30 campaign, aiming to safeguard 30% of our world’s oceans by 2030—¡vamos!

EG: Hi Claire, always a pleasure to chat with you. Where are you right now?

Claire: Thanks! I’m in Chile now as part of the Patagonica tour.

EG: Tell us about your music, what is inspiring you today, and why do you want to join this tour?

Claire: My music is an extension of myself. It’s not so much about genre or style as about creating a vibe that transports audiences to another place. I like to tease hints of mystery and magic into my sets, and there’s something truly special about taking people on a musical mind trip where they can connect deeply with themselves and each other. This tour is exciting because it has the potential to touch so many people in Chile with the music, but also to communicate messages about sustainability—an issue that’s vital to me and should be to every citizen of this world.

EG: If you could choose one environmental issue that you care about—what would it be and why?

Claire: Protecting the oceans, coral reefs, and underwater ecosystems. These underwater “playgrounds” breathe life and nutrients into the sea. Understanding and analyzing underwater sonic habitats is a key to assessing the situation, promoting awareness and ocean literacy, and protecting the health of marine life and ecosystems.

EG: Is this your first time collaborating with Parties4Peace? Why do you think it’s important for artists to donate their time and talent for global issues like conservation?

Claire: Yes! This is my first collaboration with Parties4Peace. Conservation is such a critical issue because of the mounting climate crisis—so many people simply do not grasp the immediacy required to make significant changes. Taking action now, collectively, is the only way to promote real and lasting change. If humanity were to invest its energy and resources into overcoming the climate crisis, we could develop incredible solutions. Getting the message out there is the first step, so if I can use my music to do that, it’s truly meaningful.

EG: UNESCO announced that 2025 is the International Year of the Glacier. Why are you excited to explore Patagonia and the glaciers of the pristine south?

Claire: Glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate due to rising sea temperatures, and it’s only a matter of time before they disappear. Patagonian glaciers are receding faster than anywhere else in the world. I’m starting an album project this year, and I plan to take field recordings of the crackling ice and other soundscapes around these glaciers—preserving their memory from a sonic standpoint. On top of that, Patagonia is just stunningly beautiful!

EG: Do you have any message for the people who will come to hear your music in Chile? What do you hope to share through your art/music during the tour?

Claire: Important messages can be communicated through art and music. It’s in moments of dancing that people let loose and connect with themselves and others. So…dance with your eyes closed, dance like no one is watching, focus on the positive, and let’s work together!

EG: What’s your next big project you are working on? Anything new?

Claire: I actually have two! The first is the release of the first EP on my label, Planète Secrète, which will be distributed by Yoyaku. We have three various-artist EPs lined up for vinyl pressing and distribution, featuring Alicia Hush, me (Claire), Magnanime, and Zepha. The first EP should be out at the end of February or early March—available worldwide.
