DJ and producer Dan Ghenacia of Apollonia has launched an innovative 3D sound installation at Berlin’s Quantum Galerie.
The project, titled ‘The Oracle,’ represents a collaboration between artistic vision and scientific expertise. Developed with a team of neuroscientists, engineers, designers, and fellow music producers, the experience accommodates up to 20 visitors at once. Through carefully orchestrated strobe lighting and precisely calibrated audio frequencies, the installation triggers alpha wave activity in the brain, guiding participants into meditative states.
Ghenacia drew inspiration from Brion Gysin’s 1959 ‘Dreammachine’—a device that created visual experiences through flickering light patterns on closed eyelids. ‘The Oracle’ was commissioned by Beaux Arts Magazine editor Fabrice Bousteau as an expansion of the Apollonia’s member earlier work, ‘The Clock’.
This installation is a key component of the broader HumanLab exhibition, which explores how sound frequencies shape perception, induce trance-like states, and heighten sensory experiences.
Visitors can also experience works by Japanese multimedia artist Ryoichi Kurokawa and attend a series of performances and discussions. The exhibition remains open at the museum until March 30th, 2025.
