Frankie Knuckles leads Re:versal Records’ dance music collection

Re:versal Records has unveiled a new vinyl compilation celebrating some of the artists who helped shape the foundations of modern dance music. Built from Universal Music’s archive, the release brings together four tracks by eight influential artists whose work defined club culture long before electronic music reached a global audience.

At the heart of the collection are Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan, two close friends whose residencies at The Warehouse in Chicago and Paradise Garage in New York helped establish the sounds that became known as house, garage, and loft music. Both also played a defining role as remixers during the formative years of dance music.

The compilation also features Syreeta Wright, Gwen Guthrie, Adeva, and Womack and Womack, highlighting artists whose contributions stretched across soul, disco, R&B, and early house. Their recordings capture a period when club music was evolving into a new cultural movement.

The release is part of Re:versal Records’ ongoing archival series, which draws from Universal Music’s catalog of more than 100,000 releases. Using original DAT tape masters alongside rare remixes and overlooked classics, the label continues to reintroduce influential dance recordings on heavyweight vinyl for collectors and DJs alike.
