Laurent Garnier has revealed that he plans to step back from touring in the near future. Speaking to France Inter Radio on April 10th, the iconic DJ and producer explained that he intends to stop performing at large-scale events, shifting his focus to a limited number of intimate gigs each year.
“I’m going to stop touring like I always have,” Garnier said in the interview. “I’ll still do a few dates, but the idea is to do ten in the year, and in small places where I still have my place and little things to say. But finding myself in front of big crowds, no. I haven’t done big festivals since this year.”
Reflecting on nightlife’s youth-driven energy, he questioned whether it was “relevant to still be behind the decks at 60,” adding that he’s always asked those close to him to tell him when he should step away. “Where I become a kind of dusty jukebox.”
Before stepping back, Garnier will play shows in Porto and Tignes in the coming weeks, followed by a tour of Japan next month and select European festival appearances this summer.
