Marconi Union return with their twelfth studio album, ‘The Fear of Never Landing’, out June 6th on Just Music. Alongside the announcement, the Manchester-based duo share the record’s first single, ‘Eight Miles High Alone’, accompanied by an official music video.
Presented as one continuous piece divided into nine movements, ‘The Fear of Never Landing’ explores the tensions of modern life through atmospheric and immersive soundscapes. The project was shaped over two years, during which Jamie Crossley and Duncan Meadows reconsidered the band’s direction. A pivotal live performance at a screening of the 1975 skate film Downhill Motion reignited their connection to cinematic composition, helping them rediscover their creative core.
‘Eight Miles High Alone’ is the first track to emerge from that process—a hypnotic, sequencer-driven piece that captures both introspection and distance, setting the tone for the album’s emotional journey.
Marconi Union formed in 2003 and gained global recognition with their 2011 track ‘Weightless’. Over the years, they’ve continued to define and evolve ambient music, with releases like ‘Signals’, ‘Tokyo+’, and ‘Ghost Stations’, while also collaborating with artists such as Max Richter and Vök.
