Erol Alkan chronicles London night club Trash in new book

Erol Alkan has announced ‘Trash: A Club, A Sound, A Home’, a new book documenting the history of his influential London club night Trash.

Running every Monday from 1997 to 2007, Trash brought together indie, electro, post-punk, no wave, and garage rock while hosting early live performances from artists including LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, Hot Chip, and Klaxons.

The book combines Alkan’s own recollections with interviews involving 39 figures connected to the club, including resident DJs, artists, staff, and venue managers. Contributors include Peaches, Justice, 2manydjs, Scissor Sisters, Felix Da Housecat, Tiga, and Gonzales. More than 70 hours of conversations and dozens of previously unseen photographs were used across the 100,000-word project.

‘Trash: A Club, A Sound, A Home’ will be published 30 years after the club began and 20 years after it closed. A launch event will take place at Rough Trade East in London on January 11, hosted by Kate Hutchinson.
