Jeff Mills has released the first part of ‘Jeff Mills Live at Knockdown Center, Mar 14, 2026’, an immersive recording of the New York stop on his Live at Liquid Room 30th Anniversary Tour, mixed in Spatial Audio for Apple Music.
The performance is being released in two parts. Pt. 1 arrived on September 25 alongside a set from Ken Ishii, while Pt. 2 follows on October 9 alongside a set from Joey Beltram. Both artists performed at Knockdown Center that night.
The project revisits the concept behind Mills’ original ‘Live at the Liquid Room’, recorded at Tokyo’s Liquid Room in 1995. For that recording, Mills placed six to eight microphones around the venue in an attempt to document the atmosphere of the room, although the final release was reduced to stereo.
For the Knockdown Center recording, Apple Music placed 14 microphones throughout the venue’s 20,000-square-foot main hall, combining the audience and room ambience with the direct stereo feed from Mills’ DJ mixer.
Across the two-part mix, Mills moves through his own ‘The Bells’, ‘i9’, ‘Utopia’, and ‘Life Cycle’, alongside music from Robert Hood, Surgeon, DJ Funk, Marcel Dettmann, Steve Bicknell, Joey Beltram, and others.
