Roland has introduced the JUPITER-08, a compact synthesizer in its Boutique series marking the 45th anniversary of the original Jupiter-8, released in 1981.
The new model succeeds the discontinued JP-08 and significantly expands its capabilities, beginning with polyphony. While the earlier module offered four voices, the JUPITER-08 supports up to 32 voices, alongside an eight-voice mode designed to reproduce the behavior of the original instrument.
Its updated sound engine incorporates refined pitch fluctuation and voice allocation, which Roland says contribute to a more animated, vintage-style character.
The effects section has also been expanded with a 17-type multi-effects engine featuring chorus, delay, overdrive, fuzz, bitcrusher, phaser, and pitch shifting. A dedicated delay and reverb section adds five modes, including shimmer.
Additional improvements include 240 patch memory slots, replacing the previous 64, and a two-part, 64-step polyphonic sequencer. The sequencer supports up to eight notes per step and includes motion recording.
USB-C connectivity provides power, MIDI, and multichannel audio, while the instrument includes the K-25m keyboard dock. Pricing is listed at $550 in the United States and €689 in Europe.
