Dave Angel has returned to R&S Records with ‘A Time And Place’, his first full-length album for the Belgian label. The release marks 35 years since the British techno producer first joined the imprint.
The relationship began in 1991, when R&S Records founder Renaat Vandepapeliere discovered Angel’s ‘Rolling Thunder’ project and invited him to Belgium. This led to the release of ‘1st Voyage’, followed by records including ‘Stairway To Heaven’ and ‘3rd Voyage’, alongside appearances on the ‘In Order To Dance’ compilation series and releases through sister label Apollo.
Across 15 compositions, ‘A Time And Place’ explores the producer’s longstanding connections to jazz, soul, improvisation, and electronic music. The album moves beyond conventional techno structures, combining rhythmic arrangements with live instrumentation, melodic passages, and reflective themes.
The project includes several guest musicians. Trumpeter Steve Waterman appears on ‘Réflexion’ and ‘The Yellow Butterfly’, while Chicago vocalist Robert Owens contributes to ‘Harmony Serenade’.
Guitarist Merv Carswell and vocalist Aurii Sky, Angel’s daughter, also feature on the record, expanding its instrumental and vocal arrangements.
Raised in a household immersed in live music and jazz, Angel draws on influences that predate his involvement in techno. The album reflects those musical foundations while reconnecting him with the label that helped establish his international career.
