Recorded in Santa Cruz, El Chaltén.
Argentine nonprofit project Beats of Nature recently released a new episode featuring DJ and producer Rocío Portillo, recorded in Santa Cruz, part of El Chaltén’s Patagonian landscape. The session blends electronic music with the project’s ongoing mission to support native forest restoration.
Filmed last June, with support from Argentina’s National Parks Administration, the production followed a protocol designed to minimize disturbances to the surrounding ecosystem. Rather than using speakers, Portillo performed entirely through headphones, avoiding amplified sound in the natural environment.
The session also marks a personal milestone for the Mendoza-born artist, featuring a selection composed exclusively of her own productions. “Recording in El Chaltén was a very special experience because I was able to bring my own music to a place with such a distinct identity and energy. Having a set made up entirely of my own productions also marks an important stage in my artistic journey and in how I want to present my music,” Portillo commented.
Beyond the music, Beats of Nature uses its audiovisual releases to raise awareness and encourage donations toward reforestation and native vegetation restoration. The project has previously featured artists including Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, D-Nox, Mariano Mellino, Kevin Di Serna, and Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor.
