YouTube Music has started introducing labels for tracks primarily created using generative artificial intelligence, giving listeners more information about the music they encounter on the platform.
Announced on October 14th, 2026, the initiative adds visible disclosures directly to the YouTube Music player page. Listeners can tap the label to access further information about tracks involving significant generative AI contributions.
The system focuses on the use of generative AI in areas such as musical composition and vocals. The company also plans to extend the disclosures to the main YouTube application, although a specific implementation date has not been announced.
“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for viewers and listeners to have the right information and clarity when it comes to the music they listen to,” YouTube explained in its announcement.
The move follows other transparency initiatives across music streaming. In August, Spotify announced plans to introduce an AI persona label for profiles identified as AI-generated. Apple Music also began introducing AI Transparency Tags in March, with further labeling measures planned for later in 2026.
The developments reflect a growing effort among streaming platforms to distinguish generative AI involvement in music creation and presentation.
